Schools have been closed since 16th March. It has been more than 3.5 months. Teachers, parents, school authorities everyone has one question. When will schools reopen? HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal was LIVE on Twitter, to interact with teachers and answer their queries about education during COVID-19 lockdown. HRD Minister Pokhriyal had said, If schools reopen, only 30% of students will be in attendance and social distancing needs to be maintained.
The lives of teachers and students are more important right now. 10 days after Pokhriyal’s Live Twitter chat, reports have come that the Central government is planning on reopening schools in a zone-wise manner. The government is planning to reopen schools in the Green and Orange zones first. As per the guidelines, this will be a slow process. Also, it will only be for older students. Students in class 1 to 7, will need to wait till schools fully open. Very young kids will not be allowed to attend school. This is because they will not be able to follow the rules of social distancing.
Hence for their own safety, they will remain home and continue studies on the internet. As per reports, the schools will open in the month of July with only 30% attendance. The schools may have to be run in two shifts, with students attending classes in batches. The teachers would need to be trained to follow all safety measures so that they can help others follow the rules. Also, school assemblies will not be conducted. They will only attend classes and go back home.
The UGC will decide on safety guidelines for reopening colleges and universities. NCERT was doing the same for schools. The guidelines for schools, colleges, and universities will be slightly different but safety will be the top priority. But for safety, teachers will have to wear masks, sanitizer, and gloves, thermal scanners will be installed. Only two students will sit on three-seater desks. CCTVs will observe if social distancing rules are being followed or not.
