PREVAILING MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN TODAY’S WORLD
Dr.
Brock Chisholm, the first Director-General of the World Health Organization
(WHO), in 1954, had presciently declared that “without mental health there can
be no true physical health.”
From
1954 to till now, it’s been almost 66 years but sadly there is a continuous
going peak in the graph of the persons facing mental issues. Everyone in
today’s advanced world is so busy in their own work, or socialising that they
didn’t get anytime for themselves. Also, mental illness is underestimated
always over physical health, but the truth is that a mentally well body can
cure the physical illness but a physically well body will not be able to cure
the mental illness.
On an
average 28 students commit Suicide daily in India, Every hour we loose 1
student just in India. It has now become very horrible, these numbers are just heartbreaking.
The National Crime Records Bureau states that 10,159 students committed suicide
in 2018, an increase from 9905 in 2017, and 9478 in 2016.
Major
Prevailing Mental Health Issues in Today’s world are:
·
Depression: Depression is a mental disorder which gives the
feeling of
·
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: ADHD normally
happens at the age of childhood but can also resist till being adult.
·
Bipolar Disorder: Bipolar Disorder is an illness that
produces dramatic mood swings. One can be happy for a moment and depressed in
the other.
There
are many such mental illness which people faces everyday but they are either
unknown of the phase they are going through or they are underestimated by their
family, friends etc.
Ways
to lighten up Depression:
If
somebody is having depression, the simplest way to cure their pain is by
talking to them, asking them about what has happened to them and what has let
them so down. After knowing the root cause we can easily fix this illness by being
with that person, making them happy, by talking more and more with them.
Who
is at risk from mental disorders?
Mentally
ill does not only include an individual attributes such as the ability to
manage ones thought, emotions , behaviours, and interaction with others but also
Social, economical, political, environmental factors such as Working conditions
and lifestyle.
WHO's
(World Health Organisation) Aid towards Mental illness:
WHO's
mental health plan 2013-2020 states four major Objectives –
·
More effective leadership and governance for mental health.
·
Implementation of new strategies to go past illness.
·
Strengthened information systems, evidence and research.
·
The provision of comprehensive, integrated mental health and
social care services.
CONCLUSION:
Mental
illness is very drastic for any individual. We all should always be aware of
our beloved ones, get in touch with them, talk with them, and talk about your
good and bad. Don’t keep anything inside which keep scratching you from
beneath. The longer we will talk the more we will know each other and help each
other.
