AIIMS panel give nod to human clinical trials approved by ICMR of Covaxin

THE AIIMS Delhi panel on Saturday constructed a meeting between their committee members in which they decided to give nod to the human trial of the covaxin, which was approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). AIIMS is now among the 12 sites which are selected by the ICMR for the human trial.

ICMR has given the permission for the trials of Phase-I and Phase-II, the vaccine will be tested on the total of 375 individuals of which 100 is to be the patients of AIIMS only in the Phase-I of the trial.

“The AIIMS Ethics Committee gave its approval for starting the human trial of the indigenously developed covaxin today. Healthy Volunteers having no comorbid conditions and without a history of COVID-19 , aged more than 18 years and less than 55 years, would be eligible to participate in the randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial”, Dr. Sanjay Rai, professor at the centre of community Medicine at AIIMS said.

Currently in India, two vaccines are in the phase of their human trial, one is the vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech International Collab with ICMR and the second one is the vaccine produced by the zydas cadila healthcare ltd.

Development of the covaxin, done in AIIMS and several other organisations are among the top priority projects running in India right now.

The time, in which the whole world is trying to develop the covaxin, the Oxford University Covaxin trial is ahead among in the race. It’s likely to get developed and successful cleared all the three phases by Dec '20. In the list of largest vaccine producer in the world, India comes in the top 10 countries who are the largest producer, so it’s the duty of ICMR and other health organisation to serve better in this Pandemic.

The good thing to hear in the between is that the volunteers are continuously coming forward and registering themselves for the trials of the vaccine. Those who want to register for the same can go to the official page of AIIMS-DELHI and get yourselves registered there.

It’s a time of pandemic, nothing is promised, it’s our responsibility of every citizen to maintain social distancing and remember do not go outside until and unless it’s very urgent. As the current situations is very horrible. Today on Sunday 19th July there came more than 38k+ infected cases. So it’s our duty to take care of ourselves and our beloved ones and wait for the covaxin to get developed and the pandemic to get over soon.

Till then, just take care.
